Sydney is one of the girls from the December 2006 Kingsbury litter that I helped raise. The first thing everyone notices about Sydney is her front left leg. It certainly speaks to her personality that she stands out in a crowd! Everywhere we go, people talk about the “long dark leg.” I tell them she’s so much more than just her dark leg! Sydney is from a linebreeding on her “granny” Maggie, CH Kingsbury’s Carbon Copy ROM, and we have high hopes for this little girl.
Sydney has gone above and beyond my expectations. She finished her championship with 4 majors in very limited showing. She picked up a Best in Sweepstakes along the way, at the age of nine months. Once she finished her Championship, Syd began training in agility, and she has really taken to the sport. Her progress in titles has not been quick in AKC, because of the challenges of trying to trial with an intact girl. At every turn, it seems like Syd is in season and unable to go to class or trials. However, in her very first AKC jumpers trial, Syd picked up her first Q and a second place! I was so proud of her, and we will continue the quest for Qs in 2010. In NADAC agility, with several trials over a single weekend, Syd qualified in seven of nine events, picking up two Novice NADAC titles (standard and tunnelers), and one Q toward her jumpers. Syd showed promise as a youngster in the herding field. However, time and distance made it difficult to pursue this as much as we wanted to. Maybe some day, Syd can get back to the sheep.
At the 2009 CWCCA National Specialty, Sydney showed in the Megan competition, and made the cut to the final five brindle bitches. I was really thrilled with the way she showed, and grateful to the three breeder judges who found her in the crowd. Not bad for a girl who was just two years old!
